As most of our local community know, Selby Community House was required to close unexpectedly late last year following the discovery of significant structural damage caused by termite activity.
Since then we have been working closely with Yarra Ranges Council, engineers and building surveyors to determine the scope of repairs required and the timeline for restoration of our much-loved community house.
While the building itself remains closed for now, we are very pleased that Selby Community House programs are continuing. Thanks to the generosity of our local community, and the assistance from Yarra Ranges Council, our Term 2 courses and workshops will once again be delivered across two alternative local venues – Monbulk Hub and Menzies Creek Hall.
We are incredibly grateful to our wonderful tutors and participants, who have continued to support the House during this challenging time, by attending programs at these alternative locations.
We have also been working hard to reopen our Selby Occasional Childcare Service, which has been temporarily closed since late December 2025.
We have secured a temporary home for the service at Menzies Creek Primary School, where we will operate from a standalone portable building with:
• a dedicated entrance
• a fully fenced, child-safe outdoor play space
• a familiar and nurturing learning environment for your children, with our amazing Childcare team!
We are currently awaiting final approval from the Victorian Department of Education and are hopeful that the service will be able to reopen at the beginning of Term 2.
Our wonderful team of early childhood educators are very much looking forward to welcoming our families back — and we will share confirmed opening dates as soon as approval is received.
This has been an incredibly challenging time for the House, but the ongoing encouragement and support from our community has meant so much to our staff, tutors and volunteers. We look forward to continuing our programs throughout Term 2 and, in time, welcoming everyone back to the Selby Community House once building repairs are complete.
